Jordan Finger speaks at HSBC Bank on International Business
Expansion
June, 2010
The Art of Clicking With Customers
To help educate local small businesses on international
expansion, NY Report produced “International Business Opportunities:
3 Success Stories,” sponsored by HSBC Bank on May 25th. The event
featured a panel discussion with Jordan Finger of Ardis Health,
Rhona Sutton of Rhona Sutton, Inc, and Tom Brown of Little Airplane
Productions. The panelists shared what they had learned from
experience on what to consider before expanding, setting up shop
overseas, developing cash flow strategies, and who to have on your
team to get ahead.
Deciding to Go Global
A key component of expanding business overseas is observing trends
and opportunities in foreign markets. By doing this, you identify
the best ways to get your foot in the door in new markets.
Finger started Ardis Health, an Internet marketing company that
develops health and beauty products, in 2000. Six years later,
Finger was approached by one of his vendors in the United Kingdom
about starting a similar business in Europe. After doing some
research, what compelled. Finger to pursue the idea was what he
learned about European adoption of the Internet.
While adoptions rates in the US had plateaued, scattered telecom
service overseas meant the Internet was still in its infancy,
presenting Finger with another opportunity to get in on the ground
floor and be in an advantageous position once the market grew.
“E-commerce in Europe is growing by the double digits,” he said. “In
the USA, it’s static or maybe at a one percent growth.” Finger took
time to set up technology and infrastructure overseas, and started
selling in the UK at the beginning of 2008, mirroring his...

Jordan Finger Joins Panel Discussion on International Expansion - a
BIG HIT!
July, 2010
Jordan Finger was invited to speak on a panel about International
Business Expansion hosted by HSBC Bank and NY Enterprise Report.
There were over 100 attendees ranging from business owners,
corporate executives, lawyers, country diplomats, bankers and
investors. The panel decision was lead by Rob Levin, Publisher of
The New York Enterprise Report
www.nyreport.com.
He covered topics such as: Why did we expand internationally, what
were the challenges we faced in our expansion, how did we make new
relationships; what new core competency did we need to learn; what
are the risks of doing business internationally ie. currency
fluctuation, regulations, cultural difference; what were our biggest
accomplishments and how did we manage to run our international
operations long distance.
Jordan shared the panel with Rhona Sutton (rhonasutton.com) who is
from the UK and expanded into the US and Tom Brown
(littleairplane.com) who does children’s TV shows who was fortunate
to have the BBC pick up one of his US shows. It was a very lively
discussion and they received great questions from the audience.
After the panel discussion was done, Jordan Finger had a line of
attendees eager to talk further with him regarding his international
expansion for approximately 45 minutes after the panel was done and
in fact they were already cleaning up the venue when he spoke with
the last person. When Jordan was walking out of the building, a
delegate of Bahrain made a point to wait for him to invite him to an
exciting event to her country was hosting.
Jordan Finger Wins the EO Global Award for Best Personal Development
Event
May, 2010
So I just returned from the annual Entrepreneurs Organization (EO)
annual Global Learning Conference (GLC). This is a chance for the EO
Global Committee and the EO Local Boards from North America, Central
America and South America to get together to learn how to better
service their chapters through education tracks and networking with
the 800 board members.
This event was held in the world famous New Orleans at the
prestigious Ritz Carlton. This two day event entailed classroom
education, celebrated entrepreneurial speakers, networking with the
world’s best entrepreneurs and of course great food and
entertainment.
I am currently the Social Chair of the EO New York Chapter – a
peer-to-peer, non-for-profit networking group. The New York Chapter
is made up of 232 members representing $1 billion in revenues and
5,000 employees. The New York Chapter is by far the largest chapter
in this global organization of over 7,500 members. As Social Chair I
am responsible for the chapter’s largest budget and several of its
largest events including the annual holiday party, summer party and
Valentine’s day event.
I am proud to say that out of the all the EO Chapter’s, that EO NY
won all three of the Learning Event awards. And best of all I was
the winner of the Best Personal Development Event which was my
Valentine’s day event. I am grateful and thankful for this
recognition and dedication I have put forth into my chapter and
appreciate the accolades, so I thank those that chose me as the
winner of this prestigious award.

The Art of Clicking With Customers
Ardis Health has become a leader in online marketing by
developing its own products and creating communities around them.
It was while e-marketing an herbal stop-smoking product in 2000 that
Jordan Finger had an entrepreneurial epiphany. A dot-com bust
survivor who had started his own interactive media agency, he knew a
lot about driving consumer actions—subscriptions, registrations,
purchasing—online. But the results of this project were different.
“The client’s stop-smoking system included pills, a booklet and
audio CD, and you could order with a credit card online,” he
recounts. “When they first came to me, they were doing maybe a
couple of hundred bucks a week in sales. Within 10 days of my
marketing efforts, they had orders in the six figures.” Finger,
founder of Ardis Health, saw the confluence of several factors that
added up to a huge opportunity.
First, it became clear that e-commerce was coming into its own, as
customers were developing a greater comfort level with it. Second, a
product with unique attributes that was pitched at the right
time—the stop-smoking product was launched in the fall, right before
New Year’s resolution time—could take off fast and be very
lucrative. He also knew that demand for beauty and health-related
products was only going to grow with the country’s aging
demographic. Here, too, was a chance to control his own destiny. “It
opened my eyes,” Finger says. “I saw that I would be in a much
better position if I were not just marketing a product, but if I
developed it myself and owned it.”
And so Finger’s company, Ardis Health, has evolved over 10 years
into a vertically integrated business that develops health and
beauty products, which it markets and sells throughout the US and
Europe. Ardis Health creates separate fulfillment sites and
operations centers in each country. Then the company develops
multiple websites across each market, with the images and words for
each site painstakingly translated for the local audience. No matter
where the selling takes place, the key to launching a successful
product remains in the strategies for driving consumer action that
Finger first honed in the early dot-com days...

Executive Inbox: Let’s not have a meeting
With so much to do and so little time to do it, managers
have come up with novel ways to keep confabs concise.
How much time did you spend in meetings this week? How much of it
was productive? Perhaps less than you’d like: A new survey by
staffing firm OfficeTeam says that 150 senior executives polled at
the nation’s biggest companies think almost a third (28%) of
meetings are a complete waste of time, and almost half of them (45%)
said they and their underlings would get more work done if meetings
were banned just one day per week.
“Businesses are operating with lean teams, so everyone is stretched
for time,” notes Robert Hosking, OfficeTeam’s executive director.
“So the old adage ‘Be brief, be brilliant, be gone’ is especially
timely now.”
Jordan Finger, 35, CEO of Internet
health and beauty product marketer Ardis Health,
believes in frequent, fast get-togethers. His staff of 12 huddles
every day from 10 to 10:15. “We stick with one topic,” Mr. Finger
says. “If someone has something else they need to talk about,
they’re encouraged to discuss it one-on-one with the right person.”
What strategies have you devised for keeping meetings short and to
the point? Post your comments below.
